DUBAI // An Indian construction worker beat up his colleague because the latter spanked him and criticised his work, Dubai Criminal Court has been told.

On January 27 last year, the victim is said to have jokingly hit the 33-year-old defendant on his bottom and told him that his work was not good.

After this incident, the defendant gathered some of his friends and waited for the victim, armed with sticks. When he arrived, it is alleged they brutally beat him, leaving him with a fractured jaw and loose teeth.

Police were called and the victim was found on the floor, his face bleeding. He was taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

Prosecutes said that the defendant confessed to a physical assault charge and to causing a 4 per cent permanent disability to the victim because he criticised him work.

The victim, whose nationality and age were not given, still suffers from pain and his teeth are loose.

The defendant did not show up in court to enter a plea but a verdict is expected on July 14.
