The importance of prayer is one of the many lessons that can be drawn from the sacred journey of Israa, worshippers will be told on Friday.

This sacred journey illustrates the great status of prayers and the importance of observing them. Indeed, the essence of religion is to connect with the Creator and be kind with His creation.

From this view, prayer is not just about performing the acts related to it, but rather about drawing closer to Allah.

The Almighty says, “but prostrate and draw near [to Allah]”. (Al Alaq: 19).

Prayer is among the greatest acts of worship that brings abundant rewards, according to the sermon.

Glad tidings will be given to those who observe the daily prayers, performing bowing and prostration perfectly, and nurturing the love of prayer in their children’s hearts.

Worshippers will hear that the first thing to advise each other about is obeying Allah, seeking His sublime pleasure, and know that what the Prophet saw during his Israa and Miraj journey was among the greatest signs of his Creator.

Among the scenes he witnessed were despicable behaviours that destroy community relations, such as backbiting, because it is one of the “most serious sins that trigger disputes and bigotry”, the sermon says.

The Almighty says, “and do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear -Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.” (Al Hujurat: 12).
