Ras Al Khaimah residents have called for street lights to be turned on and for police patrols to be increased along Al Awafi Road.

The road, connecting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Dhait South, has been the scene of various traffic accidents blamed on youngsters driving recklessly as well as other motorists who use it at night.

Motorists said lighting must immediately be installed for the safety of road users. They also asked that the road be widened to ensure proper traffic flow.

The Department of Public Works and Services in RAK confirmed that it has completed the installation of lamp posts and are awaiting for them to be connected to the power grid.

The Federal Electricity and Water Authority said connecting the lights on various internal roads in RAK to the grid requires all pending bills to be paid by the responsible authority, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
