DUBAI// A 29-year-old man told a friend of his ex-girlfriend that he “turns into a devil when angry” and would kill her if she didn’t reveal where his former lover was.

The Emirati student is charged with issuing threats to kill to two of his former girlfriend’s friends. He was not present at the Dubai Criminal Court to enter a plea.

On April 11 last year and before that, the student allegedly called and sent threatening text messages to the women, from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, who used to share a flat with his ex.

“She was our flatmate but she was a trouble maker and her residency expired so she left our apartment two months before he sent us the threatening texts,” said the Uzbek woman.

“I don’t know how he got my number but I answered his calls and told him I didn’t know anything about where she went, so he started threatening to come to the flat with a knife and kill me,” said the woman, adding that he then started sending texts.

She replied and threatened to call the police if he did not stop, but he continued.

“I called police and I managed to identify him because I had seen his pictures on his ex-girlfriend’s phone,” the Tajik woman said.

After his arrest, several threatening text messages and details of a phone conversation with the Uzbek woman were found on the Emirati’s phone.

The next hearing will be in May to summon the defendant.
