Etihad Airways new virtual reality film is available to view from 9am on Friday.

It can be found online at vr.etihad.com and will be followed by an updated version which features stereoscopic sound from June 17.

For the full experience, viewers will need to download the Oculus VR app and view the film using a virtual reality headset, such as Oculus Rift, or Google Cardboard. Viewers will also be able to watch the film as a 360-degree video on YouTube.

On Sunday, Etihad Airways will host a red carpet premiere at its Abu Dhabi headquarters. The event can be viewed live at noon via Etihad’s Facebook page. Viewers can put questions to some of the key players behind the film.

Etihad announced Nicole Kidman as the airline’s celebrity spokeswoman in March last year.

While Etihad Airways has had guest ambassadors, it was the first time the airline has appointed a global brand ambassador.

At the time, chief executive Peter Baumgartner, then chief commercial officer, said Kidman was the “perfect fit” with the airline’s revamped image.

In an exclusive interview with The National, Kidman, a frequent flyer with the airline, said she had a passion for travel and the chance to work with the flagship carrier of Abu Dhabi – a place she described as a second-home – was “really appealing”.
