DUBAI // Two men sentenced to 10 years in jail each for possessing more than 6 kilogrammes of heroin and 1.5kg of methamphetamine must see out their prison terms, the Dubai Court of Appeal has ruled.
In an earlier hearing, the Dubai Criminal Court convicted Pakistanis B K, 39, and J K, 49, of possessing drugs. They were also fined Dh50,000 each.
Prosecutors said Dubai police were tipped off on February 14 last year and arrested B K at his home in Al Refaa.
“We found some drugs in his apartment and he told us that he had more in his car,” said police officer M N.
B K told police that he was asked by J K to accompany him to pick up the drugs from a Pakistani man in Mussaffah, Abu Dhabi, in return for Dh1,000.
“After we returned to Dubai, J K told me to keep the drugs in my home until he called me to give them to a truck driver who will take them out of the country,” he continued.
J K was arrested at Sharjah airport while trying to leave the country.
During interrogations, J K received two text messages from Pakistan containing instructions related to the drugs.
Police seized 6.4kg of heroin and 1.5kg of methamphetamine.
The men will be deported after serving their jail terms.
