DUBAI // Two men told a woman they were taking her to a job interview only to kidnap, molest and rob her have both been sentenced to life in jail.

Dubai Criminal Court convicted two Pakistanis, aged 30 and 34, of kidnap, confinement, sexual assault and attempted rape, as well as robbery and issuing threats.

Prosecutors said their Filipino victim arrived in the country in May last year to look for work.

“On Dubizzle, I found a post from a contracting company that was looking to hire a female employee, so I emailed them,” said the 37-year-old, and she received a call on May 26 about the job.

“He said he saw my CV and wanted to meet me for an interview,” said the woman, who was told to meet at a bus station in Bur Dubai.

“When I got in the car I was told we were going to Abu Dhabi, where the company is located, in order to have the interview,” she said.

Both defendants were in the car and started flirting with her, she told the court. One of them told her he loved her from first sight and wanted to marry her. He then picked her up and forced her to sit in his lap.

The men then stopped the car and swapped seats, with the driver taking the back seat next to the woman and molesting her.

Prosecutors said the men then stopped at a quiet area on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi motorway and took turns molesting the woman. When she resisted, they threatened her.

The court was told the two defendants stole Dh300 from the woman along with her mobile and tied her up using cables from phone chargers.

“I tried to open the door and run away but it was locked,” said the woman.

Both men denied the charges against them in court last month. However, they were convicted on Wednesday and will be deported after serving their jail term.
