DUBAI // A man who put his own photo in his brother’s passport in order to rent a 4×4 has been sentenced to three months in jail.

The 28-year-old Emirati forged his sibling’s passport by adding his photo which he presented to a car hire company.

He denied forgery and use of forged documents when he appeared in Dubai Criminal Court.

He also denied additional charges of forging a rental contract and failing to pay Dh36,900 in fees.

The incident happened between November 26, 2014 and February 7 last year.

A 32-year-old Pakistani who works at the car rental firm said the defendant rented a Toyota Land Cruiser. He was reported to police after he failed to pay the rental charges.

Officers at Al Rashidiya police station summoned the man whose name was on the passport copy given to the rental firm.

However, when the man came to the station he told officers the passport was his but the photo was of his brother who was later arrested.
