DUBAI // A man was arrested at his workplace for allegedly possessing and consuming drugs, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
Prosecutors said an arrest warrant was issued on February 7 this year for the 39-year-old Emirati who worked at a National Identity Authority branch after police were tipped off that he possessed and used drugs.
A police officer with the Dubai Anti-Narcotics department said he was part of the arrest team.
“We headed to his workplace in Al Muhaisnah at 1pm and he willingly handed over drugs he had in his wallet,” said the officer, adding that more drugs were found in the defendant’s car.
“He told us he got them for free from an Omani man,” said the officer.
The accused confessed to charges of possessing 10 grams of hashish and 75 tablets of Benzhexol when he appeared in court on Monday morning.
A verdict will be issued on April 18.
