Make sure your kitchen is a germ-free zone by following these simple steps.

Oven hoods absorb odours and are a fat magnet. Clean yours in the dishwasher. Place the filters in the top compartment and run the machine. To clean the hood manually, place the filters in the sink, with a double dose of washing-up liquid. Leave to soak, scrub with a brush and clean again. Don’t forget the inside of the cooker hood.

Your fridge and freezer walls are a hotbed of nasty germs, so sort all your food into insulated bags when filling your freezer. To clean your freezer, turn it off, remove the bottom shelf and place some towels inside to soak up the water. Close the door and let it defrost overnight. You can then sterilise the freezer with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

Your dishwasher is an incubator for mould. Take out all the removable items and wipe the inside of your dishwasher with a fresh sponge and vinegar. Clean the filter, then place a cup of vinegar in the capsule compartment. Allow the machine to rinse empty at the highest temperature available.
