Britney Spears set for big comeback at MTV Video Music Awards

Britney Spears will make her first performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in nine years on August 28, signalling the official start of her comeback. The pop star, who became a teen sensation in 1998 with her hit single Baby One More Time famously went through a very public meltdown in 2007, where she shaved her head and lost custody of her two sons. After that she bowed out of the spotlight to focus on her personal life. In recent months she has recorded a new album, and her performance at the VMAs is highly anticipated. “She has had such a huge impact on this show throughout her career, so for us to have her back is a no-brainer,” said Garrett English, executive producer of the VMA show. The event is being held at New York’s Madison Square Garden. It will be broadcast on MTV in the UAE on August 29 at 8.30pm. – Reuters

Baby joy for Shahid Kapoor

Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Rajput are celebrating the birth of their baby daughter on Friday. “She has arrived and words fall short to express our happiness. Thank you for all your wishes,” Kapoor tweeted. The 35-year-old, son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, married Rajput, 22, last year. This is their first child. Public tours of Prince’s Paisley Park home to start in October

Prince’s former home, Paisley Park, will open to visitors from October 6, the administrator of the singer’s estate has announced. Public tours of the 65,000-square-foot property will include Prince’s recording and mixing studios, video-editing suites, rehearsal rooms, the private NPG Music Club, a soundstage and concert hall, and items from Prince’s personal archives. “Opening Paisley Park is something that Prince always wanted to do and was actively working on,” said the singer’s sister, Tyka Nelson. “Only a few hundred people have had the rare opportunity to tour the estate during his lifetime. Now, fans from around the world will be able to experience Prince’s world for the first time.” – Reuters

Bond director in talks for new Roald Dahl adaptation

Sam Mendes, director of American Beauty and the James Bond movies Spectre and Skyfall, is reportedly in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book, James And The Giant Peach. The classic fantasy tale was previously adapted for the big screen by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick in 1996, using a mixture of live action and stop-motion animation. Variety reports that Sam Mendes is being lined up by Disney to direct a fully live-action film, which will offer a new take on the Roald Dahl story. Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of Dahl’s The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is in cinemas now. – The National

Trailer debuts for Blair Witch sequel

The first trailer for the new sequel to 1999 horror hit The Blair Witch Project has been released. Titles simply Blair Witch, shows a college student called James leading friends into the woods where his sister, Heather (played in the original by Heather Donahue), disappeared during the events of the first film. Director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett initially gave the film a fake title, The Woods, to disguise its origins – but revealed the truth during a screening at San Diego Comic-Con in July. This is actually the second sequel to The Blair Witch Project. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 was released in 2000. Blair Witch is due for release in the United States on September 16.- The National
