AJMAN // An Egyptian man drowned off Ajman beach on Monday afternoon when he was swept away by a strong current.
The body of S A, 29, was pulled from the sea by a maritime rescue team from Ajman Civil Defence and it was taken to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital.
Col Nasser Rashid Al Zari, spokesman for Ajman Civil Defence, said: “The operations room received a call at 12.20pm noting that a man drowned in Ajman Corniche sea and, based on the report, the team started searching and scanned the area until they found the dead body.”
Search teams used a drone to help find the body, reducing the search time significantly, added Col Al Zari, who said teams will also use the devices in firefighting and rescue operations in the future.
He also appealed to beachgoers not to swim in dangerous places or at night, and to follow beach guidelines. He said parents should always keep an eye on their children when at the beach and not allow them to swim where there are strong currents or in bad weather.
