DUBAI // A housemaid and two drivers will have to see out their 10-year jail sentence for possessing more than three kilograms of heroin with the intention to sell, the Dubai Court of Appeal has ruled.
Court records show that drivers M S, 40, and A D, 34, and maid F S, 32, all Sri Lankans, were arrested in June last year after police were tipped off.
Narcotics officer A L, 34, said after they were arrested he found the drugs hidden in A D’s lorry.
“They confessed to possessing 3.2kg of heroin and said they were sending it to Kuwait,” he said, adding officers also found 1,000 Kuwaiti dinars, weighing scales and plastic bags in F S’s home in Sharjah.
The officers said that the maid told him she gave the drugs to M S and A D.
“She also told me she was in contact with a man from outside the country who was directing her where to go and whom to give the drugs to,” said A L.
When M S, A D and F S appeared at the Dubai Criminal, the men confessed to possessing drugs but denied intending to sell the heroin. F S denied all of the charges.
However, they were all found guilty of all charges and fined Dh50,000.
The appeals court upheld the verdicts. All three will be deported following the completion of their prison terms.
