DUBAI // Du has followed rival Etisalat in raising the price of its beIN sports package by more than 40 per cent and not allowing subscribers to sign up for the Dh90 package advertised on the Qatari broadcaster’s website.
Sports subscribers received an email last Thursday that said the fee increase – from Dh77 a month to Dh110 – would take effect on Monday, with more sports and children’s channels to complement the existing beIN sports channels.
Etisalat last month announced it had increased the fee for its beIN sports package from Dh78 a month to Dh110, blaming the rise on beIN’s price increase.
But Etisalat and du are now offering subscribers only the “complete” package, including extra channels, without allowing them to have the Dh90 sports-only package that is equal to what they had before.
“Your beIN TV package will undergo some exciting changes, with new channels bringing you more entertainment and exclusive content,” du’s email said.
“With the new channels you’ll now be able to watch an exciting world of adventures and documentaries with Outdoor channel and Extreme Sports, a thrilling selection of movies with four dedicated new HD movie channels, the best entertainment from Fox HD channels, and great sports including Rio 2016 Olympics and the start of the new football season.”
Du said the new pricing structure was “devised and guided by beIN”.
“Accordingly, the old beIN packages will be no longer be available from August and our existing du TV subscribers with the beIN package will be notified and upgraded into the new beIN Full package with additional channels,” du said.
