I am planning to come to Dubai to find a job and am arranging a visit visa. I have a Pakistani international driving licence that is valid for one year. Can I drive a car in the UAE with this licence or is there any limitation? SH, Pakistan
Most driving licences are accepted by rental companies with an international driving permit, but as soon as someone becomes a UAE resident they must legally convert to a UAE driving licence. Only citizens from certain countries may automatically transfer to a UAE licence, and all others must follow the steps to obtain a new licence. Pakistan is not on the list of countries for a licence transfer, so SH would have to undergo training from an approved driving school and pass both a practical and a theory test before being issued with a valid licence.
