SHARJAH // The remains of a large whale, washed up on Kalba beach, have been buried in the sand by environmental workers.

According to the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, the 15-metre-long animal is believed to have been decomposing for the past four to five days, and was buried due to the foul smell.

“It might be a blue whale, or a humpback whale,” said Hana Al Suwaidi, director of EPAA. Samples of the animal have been sent to laboratories to determine the species.

“Part of the whale’s tale is missing which makes us suspect that the whale died due to colliding with a ship,” said Mr Al Suwaidi.
