In his first installation since 2013’s Big Air Package, the environmental sculptor Christo has used 100,000 square meters of fabric, carried on a pontoon of 220,000 high-density poly-ethylene cubes to create The Floating Piers, an artwork that will allow visitors to literally walk on water. Like all of Christo’s works, the installation, which has transformed Lake Iseo in northern Italy, is temporary and will last for just two weeks. Words by Nick Leech / The National
