SHARJAH // A 4-year-old boy has fallen to his death from the high-rise building he lived in.
The Arab boy plunged from the 18th-floor apartment in Al Khan, Sharjah, on Monday night, police said. His body was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the boy’s death.
The death is the latest in a series of cases of children falling to their deaths from towers in Sharjah.
Last month, a 4-year-old Arab girl died after falling from a tower in Al Majaz. The girl had been left alone in her apartment and police said she climbed on a chair close to the window, lost her balance and fell.
Also in May, a two-and-a-half-year-old Asian girl fell from a window of her seventh-floor apartment in Al Qasimia. Her mother left home as her daughter slept to pick her son up from school.
Police said the child climbed on a cabinet underneath a window and fell to her death.
Statistics released by Sharjah Police showed that seven children fell to their death in the emirate last year, while so far this year, there has been six such incidents, resulting in five children dying and one being paralysed.
Police have launched several awareness campaigns on the matter and urge residents to secure their windows and balconies to prevent children from falling out. They also warn parents to not leave their children unattended.
