ABU DHABI // Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National, has launched a campaign to alert people about the consequences of negative posts and comments on social media.
The Positive Commentary initiative aims to build a culture of constructive criticism and follows the publication’s efforts last year to raise awareness about responsible photography and respecting people’s privacy.
“Aletihad’s awareness initiative is part of Abu Dhabi Media’s efforts to spread a culture of social responsibility and to adopt initiatives for issues that affect all sectors of the community, in addition to contributing in various community activities with a view to develop and strengthen engagement and partnership between individuals,” said HE Mohamed Ebraheem Al Mahmood, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Media.
Mohammed Al Hammadi, publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Aletihad, said the initiative would help to raise the community’s awareness of the need to respect others and acceptance of their ideas and talents. He said the initiative would help to entrench a culture of constructive criticism through positive dialogue and avoiding negative comments.
A group of influential media, sports and art personalities were selected as ambassadors.
They include Al Wahda footballer Ismail Matar, television presenter Mustafa Agha, Emirati artist Aryam, columnist Turki al Dakhil, FNC member Saeed Al Rumaithi, poet Rashid Al Rumaithi and sports commentator Ali Saeed Al Kaabi.
